Frequently Asked Questions

About Therapy & Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)

What is Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)?

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is an evidence-based therapy approach that helps individuals process traumatic experiences, distressing memories, anxiety, phobias, grief, and other emotional challenges. ART uses eye movements and imagery techniques to help reduce the emotional intensity connected to difficult experiences without requiring clients to repeatedly discuss painful details.

How is ART different from traditional talk therapy?

Unlike traditional talk therapy, ART focuses on helping the brain process distressing experiences rather than repeatedly analyzing them. Many clients appreciate that ART is structured, goal-oriented, and does not require extensive discussion of traumatic events.

Is ART the same as EMDR?

No. While both ART and EMDR use eye movements, they are different treatment models with distinct protocols and techniques. During a consultation, we can discuss which approach may be the best fit for your goals.

What can Accelerated Resolution Therapy help with?

ART may be helpful for:

  • Trauma and PTSD

  • Anxiety

  • Panic symptoms

  • Grief and loss

  • Phobias

  • Distressing memories

  • Sports performance anxiety

  • Performance blocks

  • Dyslexia-related anxiety

  • Test anxiety

  • Stress-related concerns

How many ART sessions will I need?

Many clients experience meaningful improvement within 1-5 sessions, though the number of sessions depends on your goals, experiences, and individual needs.

Do I have to talk about my trauma in detail?

No. One of the benefits of ART is that extensive disclosure is not required for effective treatment.

Trauma Therapy

What is trauma therapy?

Trauma therapy helps individuals understand how difficult experiences affect emotions, relationships, behaviors, and the nervous system. Therapy focuses on building safety, emotional regulation, self-trust, and healing from the effects of past experiences.

Do I need a PTSD diagnosis to benefit from trauma therapy?

No. Many people benefit from trauma-informed therapy even if they have never received a formal diagnosis.

What are signs of unresolved trauma?

Common signs may include:

  • Anxiety

  • Emotional dysregulation

  • Hypervigilance

  • Difficulty trusting others

  • Perfectionism

  • People-pleasing

  • Chronic stress

  • Emotional numbness

  • Relationship difficulties

  • Feeling constantly on edge

Can trauma therapy help with anxiety?

Yes. Anxiety and trauma are often closely connected. Therapy can help address both current symptoms and underlying experiences that may be contributing to anxiety.

Teen Trauma Therapy

How do I know if my teen needs therapy?

Your teen may benefit from therapy if they are experiencing:

  • Anxiety

  • Emotional outbursts

  • Social withdrawal

  • School-related difficulties

  • Low self-esteem

  • Behavioral concerns

  • Trauma-related symptoms

  • Family conflict

Does my teen have to talk about everything right away?

No. Building safety and trust comes first. Therapy moves at a pace that respects your teen's readiness.

Can parents be involved in treatment?

Yes. Parent involvement is often an important part of supporting meaningful and lasting change while still protecting the teen's therapeutic space.

Do you work with justice-involved youth?

Yes. I have experience working with justice-involved youth through my background in juvenile probation, restorative justice, forensic social work, and trauma-informed care.

Therapy for High-Functioning Women

Can trauma affect successful women?

Absolutely. Trauma does not discriminate based on career success, education, income, or achievement.

Why do I feel overwhelmed when everything looks fine on paper?

Many high-functioning women spend years managing anxiety, perfectionism, people-pleasing, and emotional exhaustion while appearing successful externally. High functioning is not the same as fine.

Can therapy help with perfectionism and people-pleasing?

Yes. These patterns often develop as adaptive responses to stress, trauma, or difficult relational experiences and can be addressed through therapy.

Sports Performance Anxiety Therapy

What is sports performance anxiety?

Sports performance anxiety occurs when fear, pressure, self-doubt, or past experiences interfere with athletic performance.

Can therapy help athletes improve performance?

Therapy is not performance coaching. However, reducing anxiety, confidence issues, performance blocks, and fear responses often helps athletes perform closer to their actual abilities.

Can ART help athletes?

Yes. Accelerated Resolution Therapy can help athletes process experiences related to injury, performance mistakes, fear of failure, confidence concerns, and competition anxiety.

Do you work with student athletes?

Yes. I work with middle school, high school, collegiate, and adult athletes.

Dyslexia-Related Anxiety & Academic Stress

Can therapy help with dyslexia-related anxiety?

Yes. Many individuals with dyslexia experience anxiety, shame, self-doubt, and academic stress related to years of educational challenges.

Can ART help with test anxiety?

Yes. ART can help reduce emotional distress connected to testing experiences, academic performance pressure, and negative beliefs developed through school-related struggles.
